Champagne for lighter fare

For whites:
Riesling and Gewurztraminer, but nothing too floral.
New Zealand and Loire Sauvignon Blanc
Viognier from Australia or France
Gruner Veltliner from Austria.

For reds:
Lighter fare — Pinot Noir
Heavier main courses — Pinot Noir and Rhone wines (Syrah, Grenache and blends)
Zinfandel
Syrah and Beaujolais
