One feature that I hope to have on a weekly basis is a brief news roundup of interesting wine news. If there is major breaking news, I’ll do a seperate post, but this will cover the interesting tidbits that accumulate throughout the week.
- Vin de Pays du Jardin de la France is now going to be called Vin de Pays du Val de Loire. Other Vin de Pays are changing names too: Vin de Pays des Gaules (Beaujolais), Vins de Pays de l’Atlantique (Bordeaux) and Vins de Pays Vignobles de France (all of France).
- In Cote Rotie, a region in Northern Rhone, France, half of the crop is destroyed by a hail storm.
- More local wineries? A recent comment from an Ohio grape grower who used to sell his crop to Welch’s commented to me that Welch’s is purchasing more fruit from Brazil because it is cheaper. As a result, lots of local growers (in Ohio, New York, etc.) are now looking into opening wineries.
- The US is set to become the #1 wine drinking nation by 2010.
