Today is the last day of the MW student tour of the Medoc and Sauternes.
We started with a lecture and tasting with Denis DUBOURDIEU an Oenology Professor at the Institut de la Vigne et du Vin (ISVV) on complements of grape varieties and their sensory influences in the style of red, white and sweet great wines. Listening to him speak AND being able to ask questions (I asked a lot of questions) was amazing.
From there we headed to Château RIEUSSEC in Sauternes for a tasting and visit. Then off to Château CLIMENS in Barsac with an educational tasting of Sauternes and Barsac. I now feel I understand the difference between Sauternes and Barsac. The most interesting part was asking the Technical Director to explain why one bottle had gone bad.
Since we were running a bit early we stopped at Chateau d’YQUEM for a quick photo opportunity.
The trip ended with a tour and gala dinner at Chateau d’ARCHE in Sauternes.
It’s sad to say good bye to everyone. Many I’ll see next month at the course days in Budapest.
Tomorrow myself and one other head back to St Emilion to visit three properties.
Foie gras twice today and 26 wines.
