Introductory Wine Knowledge
Great Wine Made Simple: Straight Talk from a Master Sommelier — by Andrea Immer, a great book for getting an introduction to wine.
Great Tastes Made Simple — also by Andrea Immer, a good way to get an understanding on food and wine pairing.
More Advanced Wine Knowledge
The Oxford Companion to Wine, 3rd Edition — this is THE wine book to have to answer any questions. Not really for sitting down and reading (unless you like reading encyclopedias or you are studying for a Diploma exam), but is one of the best resources.
Wine Report 2007 (Wine Report) — great book for current updates on all regions of the world. This book assumes you already know the basics or have access to another book to look them up.
The New Spain: A Complete Guide to Contemporary Spanish Wine (New (Mitchell Beazley)) — want to learn about Spanish wine? This is probably one of the most up to date and best reference books available.
